1. Formation of p-n junction: In a p-type semiconductor, Junction holes are the majority carriers and electrons are the minority carriers whereas in n-type semiconductor, electrons are the majority carriers and holes are the minority carriers

Now, When p-type and n-type semiconductors are intimately joined together, p-n junction diode is formed.

The boundary location of p kind and n kind semiconductors is regarded as a p-n junction. When a p-n junction is formed, some electrons from the n- location go over the junction and go into the p-type. Here they recombine with the holes and the holes from the p-region move over the junction and go into the n-region and recombine with the electrons.
