Title of Micro-Project: Room heater: Room Heater using Principle of Electric Heating

1) Rationale: 

Electric heaters have been around for decades as a source of heat in homes to provide 
warmth to us. One of the reason for their popularity is because of lower cost to purchase 
 and easy maintenance compared to other sources of heat. They work by converting 
electricity into heat using metals as heating elements. The metals have high resistance 
 that permit a certain amount of current to flow though them to provide the required heat. 
 Electrical energy is changed into heat energy. Electric heating is a process in which 
 electrical energy is converted to heat energy.An electric heater is an electrical device that 
converts an electric current into heat.Some systems can be reversed so that the interior 
space is cooled and the warm air is discharged outside or into the ground.

2.0. Aims /Benefits of the Micro Project: 

Electric heater is an ultimate electrical device that converts electric current into heat. The 
 equipment is used to heat up the interior of buildings. The readily available equipment can 
 heat the interiors of a place within a few minutes only. Electric heaters can be used in homes, 
offices, kitchens or bathrooms as per your requirement. These are probably the simplest and 
 easiest way to keep yourself and your space warm.Automatic protection against any 
 abnormality in the heating system can easily be provided in electrical heating. The efficiency 
 of the system is quite high compared to other equivalent heating systems. The electric heating system is noise free. Starting of the system is quite faster than other heating systems.

4.0 Course Outcomes Achieved:-

 a) Troubleshoot problems related to single phase A.C series circuit.
 b) Troubleshoot problems related to single phase A.C parallel circuit.

Introduction
An electrical heater is an electrical device that converts an electric current into heat. The heating element inside every electrical resistor, and works on the principle of joule heating. An electric current passing through a resistor, will convert that electrical energy into heat energy. Most modern electric heating devices use nichrome wire as the active
element; the heating element, depicted on the right, uses nichrome wire supported by ceramic insulators. When you turn a heater on, the electric current that is produced heats up the nichrome wire components-better known as the heating coils in the unit. Electrical energy is turned into heat as the current passes through the resistor. That’s why electric heaters are also known as resistance heating units.
