- Practical Significance:-
In industry, phenomenon of resonance is used in variety of applications such as manufacturing musical instruments, Constructing big halls or auditorium, in ultra sonography in silencer of a vehicle in automobile industry, Resonating circuits, filters, loud speakers etc. in electronic industry. Resonance phenomena occur with all types of vibrations such as mechanical resonance, electromagnetic resonance, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), electron spin resonance (ESR) Resonant systems can be used to generate vibrations of a specific frequency (e.g., musical instruments), or pick out specific frequencies from a complex vibration containing many frequencies (e.g., filters). Resonance occurs widely in nature in many manmade devices. Sound waves are produced by the compression of a substance by vibrations caused by objects such as vocal cords, guitar strings, organ pipe, loud speaker etc. A resonance frequency exists when a system is driven by its natural frequency. Pendulums and swings demonstrate only one natural frequency. In this experiment the principle of resonance is utilized to determine the velocity of a sound wave in air using resonance tube method.
- Relevant Program Outcomes (POS)
PO1- Basic knowledge
PO2- Experiments and practice
PO3- Individual and teamwork
PO4- Communication
PO5- Lifelong learning
- Relevant Course Outcomes Use equipment/instruments based on radioactive and ultrasonic principles.
- Relevant Affective domain related Outcomes a. Handle tools and equipments carefully. b. Practice energy conservation. c. Function as a team member.
- Minimum Theoretical Background
Stationary waves are produced by the superposition of two waves of same frequency and amplitude travelling with same velocity in opposite directions. Due to the constructive interference, these waves produce certain fixed points along the medium
